Bye-bye, Diego…

Time for sad news… Diego just announced that he’s officially retiring from the tennis world.

“ I’ve been playing since two years with injuries and watching the new generation giving 100 %  makes me think that it’s really tough for me (…)

I would like to enjoy life at home, doing things I couldn’t do before because I was travelling all the time.

I hope you’ll hear me soon talking about tennis, or teaching young people. And who knows, maybe I’ll get the opportunity to be a Davis Cup captain one day. I have very good memories of my career, especially being in the Top 100, playing 4 Gran Slams and playing against Federer twice (…).

I would like to thank all the people who supported me, especially my family and my team. Actually, I’m happy with my decision. “

“This was probably my best match”

Diego played a great match today, beating the Spaniard Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo in two sets 6/1 6/3.

Waving his cap over his head while running to the net to shake the hand of his opponent, it was a satisfied and smiling Gato who thanked everyone for the support today.

The next round will be tough as well, he will face Andres Molteni (ARG).
