Diego is playing in his hometown Obera (Misiones), for the first time since a long time… The main draw begins tomorrow, but he will only play his first round on Tuesday, against his countryman Patricio Heras.

Today’s match against Agustin Picco was tough. Diego lost in the tie-break of the third set -Picco won 4/6, 6/4, 7/6 (3) - but there is no need to worry, the main reason was only tiredness.
He’ll stay in Oberà to get ready for the next tournament that starts on Monday (Futures F11).

Diego’s come-back couldn’t have been better. Beside his family, friends and coach, yesterday was quite… a perfect day !
“I feel good and I’m happy to be able to play again. I had absolutely no pain in my knee and my tennis was good. Yes, it was a good day.”
“If I’m coming back, it’s because I want play at my best level like I did in the past. If I wasn’t sure to be able to do it, I wouldn’t have put all the energy and the efforts into it. I’m not interested by playing tennis for fun. Of course I enjoy it ,but I want to win matches, to gain confidence and to succeed again. For the moment, I’m focused on this tournament and the one in Oberá next week. Honestly, after that, I have no idea what we’re going to do. First of all, I need to take the rhythm of the competition again and my shortcomings are now basically physical.”

El regreso del Gato

(…) Pese a que ninguno de los cinco misioneros que jugaron la qualy pudo llegar al cuadro principal, el F10 tendrá hoy el esperado regreso del obereño Diego Hartfield, quien después de una lesión que lo marginó de las canchas durante casi diez meses, no quiso perderse esta oportunidad. El Gato, actualmente en el puesto 1445 del ranking de la ATP, jugó por última vez en septiembre del año pasado, un Future en el que alcanzó la segunda ronda.
El obereño, quien hace cuatro años le hizo partido a Roger Federer en la primera ronda de Roland Garros, jugará el torneo del Itapúa debido a una invitación especial, y su primer rival, alrededor de las 14, será el argentino Guillermo Bujwiewicz, 748 del ranking (…).
